Applications are invited for an appointment as Lecturer in American Literature in the Division of English, American Studies and Creative Writing within the School of Arts, Languages and Cultures.  We have an excellent record in both research and teaching, and a strong commitment to student experience.  In the most recent UK government Research Assessment Exercise our Division was ranked second nationally.  In the latest National Student Survey the American Studies programme received 100% in overall satisfaction.  We are looking to appoint outstanding individuals who will further enhance both our research and teaching profiles.

You will provide research-informed teaching in American literature and culture, with a particular focus on the period prior to 1900.  You will contribute to existing courses in American literature and culture across the Division, as well as initiating new undergraduate and postgraduate courses, and attracting and supervising research students.  You will have established, or show the promise for, an excellent early-career research profile through high quality publications and research activities, and will have the potential to develop research networks and wider research impact through collaborative grant applications and public engagement.  You will show a commitment to collegial working, and will be able to fulfill administrative roles consistent with your career stage.

This permanent appointment will begin on 1 September 2013.
