Where does my membership fee go?

The IAAS is not for profit. None of the committee members earns a salary for their work for the IAAS, and most perform their duties on top of full-time jobs and studies. Membership fees make possible a number of initiatives, including the many bursaries we offer, principally for students and early career scholars, the events we run, the outputs we generate, and the wider American Studies projects and activities we support.

Membership Benefits Include:
  • Automatic membership of the EAAS (European Association for American Studies)
  • Regular updates from the IAAS about American Studies news in Ireland and beyond
  • Access to our bursary and prizes schemes
  • Free access to JSTOR’s Ireland Collection (a digital database of core resources on Ireland)*
  • 50% discount on an annual subscription to JSTOR’s JPASS access scheme
  • Invitations to upcoming IAAS conferences and symposiums
  • Discounted registration rates for many IAAS events
  • As a member of IAAS you can take advantage of a special subscription rate for the Journal of American Studies:
  • IAAS members can take an individual print+online= subscription from year 2014 for 40 euro, OR
  • IAAS members can take an individual online-only subscription for a rate of 40 euro.
  • To avail of this offer, please contact Cambridge journals directly, noting our IAAS membership: journals@cambridge.org
  • The online component of both of the above includes full text access to the current volume back to 1997.

Please note that from 2020, the IAAS membership fee for those normally resident and working in the Americas is valid for 2 years.
