Location: Coventry
Salary: £39,992 to £47,722 per annum
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed on: 2nd November 2017
Closes: 3rd December 2017
Job Ref: 1696505

The Department of History at the University of Warwick seeks to appoint an Assistant Professor in History and Literature. You will contribute to the design and teaching of the new undergraduate joint-honours degree of English and History (VQ32). You will conduct research in History and be prepared to work in collaboration with colleagues within the Department of History and the Department of English and Comparative Literary Studies, and with colleagues across the University. You will be expected to build research networks in your specialism beyond the University.

We seek an outstanding scholar who specialises in the historical embeddedness of literature and culture – socially and materially – and who is keen to provide innovative teaching in this area, including the design and delivery of new modules. The successful candidate will engage with the intersection of history and literature in both their research and teaching. We welcome applications from all those working in, and critically reflecting upon, the field of cultural history, whether within the context of Britain, North America, or Global history.

You will possess a PhD or equivalent; will have an emergent or already established international reputation in an appropriate field of study; and will have relevant teaching experience. You will also demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence. You will contribute to the teaching on the core modules of the English and History degree, and will develop new modules as your specialist research-led teaching.

All applications must be accompanied by a CV and covering letter. Writing samples may be requested from candidates during the latter stages of the recruitment process and should not be submitted with the initial application.

Please direct all informal inquiries to Professor Daniel Branch, Head of Department, at D.P.Branch@warwick.ac.uk.
