The Department of English and Comparative Literary Studies at the University of Warwick intends to appoint an Assistant Professor in Seventeenth-Century English Literature and Culture from 15 September 2017. We seek an outstanding scholar who specialises in any aspect of the literature and culture of the period and is keen to provide innovative teaching in this area, including new modules. We would welcome applications from specialists in seventeenth-century poetry, literature and the environment, religious writing, literature and politics, world and comparative literature (with French, Spanish or Latin, for example), or literature and science, for example.

You will possess a PhD or equivalent; will have an emergent or already established international reputation in an appropriate field of study; and will have relevant teaching experience. You will also demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence and will join a teaching team with strengths in innovative teaching methods, including open-space learning and practical workshops, as well as more traditional lectures and seminars.

You will contribute to the teaching across the core modules of the English and Comparative Literature degrees, and will develop new modules as your specialist research-led teaching. You will also contribute teaching in your research area to the Department’s MA programme and will supervise PhD research. You will join a vibrant culture and research environment, in the department, the Centre for the Study of the Renaissance and the Arts Faculty. In REF 2014, the Department of English and Comparative Literary Studies was ranked 1st in the UK.

Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed on the afternoon of Friday 24 March 2017.

They will be required to give a presentation of 20 minutes to the Department in the morning that day. Long-listed candidates will be asked to send a sample of their research to the Department Office.
