Professorship in American Studies

Department of History invites applications for a position as Professor in American Studies. The position is available starting 1st August 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The University of Southern Denmark seeks a full professor of international reputation in the field of American Studies, with expertise in the social and cultural history of the United States. This position will be housed in the Department of History and will support the Center for American Studies, which has 150 BA majors, 50+ MA students, and several PhD students, making it one of the largest programs of its kind in northern Europe. At present there are nine full time faculty, frequently joined by a Fulbright professor.

The successful candidate should be prepared to offer intellectual leadership to a faculty that has a vigorous publication record. He or she should have extensive contacts in the field of American Studies and major publications in more than one topic area, demonstrating the breadth necessary for this position. Administrative duties and thesis supervision are compensated for by standard reductions in teaching load. Knowledge of a Scandinavian language is not immediately required, but it is clearly an advantage for the successful candidate.
